‘It’s a very real possibility’: The future of newspaper delivery

source Bleachers article New York City is one of the nation’s largest newspaper delivery markets, and it is likely to get even bigger.

Bloomberg reported Tuesday that the city is planning to install 3,000 new newspaper delivery vehicles by 2020, and another 5,000 by 2022.

Bloomberg also reported that the delivery vehicles will be powered by Tesla vehicles, and that the cost per delivery will be $200,000. 

New York City’s newspaper delivery is currently dominated by a fleet of delivery vans, and they are currently not allowed to deliver newspapers.

In 2017, New York Mayor Bill de Blasio said that the “first day of the New Year will be the first day that a newspaper delivers in New York.”

He also said that New York will “probably start seeing some paper deliveries at midnight.” 

But the mayor did not rule out the possibility that New Yorkers could see a change in the delivery process over the next year.

Bloomberg noted that “it’s a real possibility that delivery vehicles can get back to New York, but it’s a little bit more challenging for some other cities,” including Washington D.C., and Atlanta, Georgia. 

The Bloomberg report did not provide details about how much delivery vehicles would cost, or how many delivery vans the city plans to deploy. 

A report published by the Brookings Institution on Tuesday said that “there’s growing concern that a mass delivery system like Tesla will disrupt newspaper delivery and drive up prices for consumers.” 

The Brookings report noted that Tesla has already said that it plans to sell at least 50,000 electric vehicles in 2021.

New York is a big player in the newspaper delivery market, as the city has been a main delivery route for many newspapers and news organizations.

The New York Times, for example, has a delivery area of 1.8 million square feet on Manhattan’s West Side, which is more than double the size of the Times Square area. 

“New York has historically been a very good place to sell newspapers and the city can use that expertise to deliver a high volume of newspapers,” said Andrew Ritter, CEO of the Boston Globe and a former managing editor of The New Yorker.

“If Tesla can deliver at a reasonable price and deliver a large volume of papers, then that’s a win-win situation for New York and the people of New York,” Ritter said.
