President Donald Trump and Speaker Ryan were on the phone Thursday morning discussing the state of the federal government, including the federal debt.
The conversation came just hours after Ryan issued a tweet slamming Trump for not releasing the transcripts of his own tax returns.
“The president’s going to release his tax returns tomorrow.
We’re still figuring out what is going on with the federal budget,” Ryan said.
“It’s going well.”
Trump was not available for comment.
Ryan’s office did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the president’s tweet.
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) also weighed in Thursday, saying that Ryan was “doing the right thing” by not releasing transcripts of Trump’s tax returns as a condition of a debt deal.
“Ryan is working hard to deliver the bipartisan deal that we need to end the crisis of the trillion-dollar debt,” Pelosi said in a statement.
“He has done so, and the President should be doing the same.
The American people deserve to know what is in Ryan’s tax return.”
