What you need to know about Taiwan’s latest war with China

Taiwan’s new leadership wants to start a war with Beijing by attacking the capital, Taoyuan, the foreign ministry said Thursday.

Taiwan wants to defend itself, but Beijing wants to send troops to Taoyua, it said in a statement.

Taiwan and the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) are engaged in a three-year war that has killed more than 10,000 people, driven millions of people from their homes, displaced millions and created a strategic headache for Beijing.

China says it is defending Taiwan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The war comes as Taiwan prepares to mark its 80th anniversary this month.

Taiwan has a long history of fighting with China, which occupied the island in 1949.

It fought with China during the civil war that followed the Chinese civil war of 1949-53.

But Beijing has since moved away from its colonialist past, and the island has gained independence in 2005.
